Well, here we go. My third blog in, and I'm already going to be writing mostly about another team. The Pirates lost 2-1 to the Cubs last night. Matt Murton (read: future Pirate Killer) drove in the game-winning run with a single in the 8th. The Pirates got another quality start, this time from Victor Santos. I point to the Pirates' failure to get the timely hit as the reason for the loss. Jack Wilson continues on his tear, knocking in the Pirates' only run with a single. Wilson looks like the player he was in 2004, when he collected over 200 hits and hit .300. In the ironic stats category, he also has the best average with runners in scoring position in all of baseball. Adjust your fantasy rosters accordingly.

The post I'm writing today might be considered blasphemy to many Pittsburghers, so don't tell them, okay? I really like the Cincinnati Reds this year. I think they can continue their success for most of the season and will be contending with the Astros and Cardinals for the division.

As of now, the Reds sport the best record in the NL with an 18-8 mark. Only the White Sox have a slightly better record at 18-7. I mention the White Sox because they're who this Reds team reminds me of.

Nobody expected much from the Southsiders last season. They got of to a great start with outstanding pitching from John Garland and Mark Buerhle. They also hit a ton of home runs, scored when they needed to. The bullpen was solid. They ended up going all the way to their first world title since 1917.

The Reds are following a similar path. They are off to a great start with outstanding pitching from Bronson Arroyo and Aaron Harang. They always hit a ton of home runs and seem to be capable of manufacturing the runs they need. The bullpen has been solid.

They reside in one of the toughest divisions in baseball, but so far they have handled the Cardinals and Astros pretty easily. They destroyed the Brewers and beat up the Cubs as well. 19 games against the Pirates can't hurt either (they already took three of four in April). I know it's early, but they just have that White Sox of 2005 look to them.

We apologize for the team hopping. This isn't the damn Reds' Writer. We now join our regularly scheduled blog, already in progess...

...nobody out and you can't get a BUNT down to move the guys over?! A leadoff man has to be a guy who, if he can't do anything else well, has to be able to put the ball in play. Chris Duffy doesn't seem to be able to do this, and his playing time has been diminished severely. Last night's at-bat didn't help his cause. Nate McLouth has been getting a good deal of time in center, and that trend is likely to continue.

So now might be a good time to look at some Pirate pitchers for your fantasy team. Upcoming opponents are the Mets and Nationals on the road, and the Diamondbacks and Marlins at home. Then the suddenly formidable Reds come to town on the 18th of May. Paul Maholm, Ian Snell and Zach Duke could be solid options until then. They've been eating up innings and keeping the weaker hitting teams off the board. If the offense could pitch in a little more, they could get a win or two during this stretch as well.

If you have Oliver Perez, cut him now. And call him a bad name as you send him to the waiver wire or the dollar bin.
