This game really makes the blown save on Saturday evening hurt. It is tough to bounce back and take the series when facing the best pitcher in baseball Johan Santana. He no-hit the Tigers through six innings while striking out eleven batters in the game. Pudge broke up the no-hitter leading off the seventh. Magglio Ordonez followed with his third home run in three games against the Twins. This cut the Twins lead in half, but was all the Tigers could manage. Detroit didn’t have Polanco, Guillen, Young and Granderson in the line-up against Santana. Each of the players, except Granderson, needed the day off because of injury concerns. Not having these bats further handcuffed the Tigers against Santana. Polanco has had to sit out the last few games and may require a DL stint.

Maroth went five innings for Detroit giving up all four runs. He allowed nine hits while walking and striking out three. He surrendered a HR to Luis Castillo the hero from the previous game. Maroth was not as dominant as he had been in previous start as he struggled with his control. However, he did keep the Tigers in the game and things might have been different if Marcus Thames was able to hold onto a long drive in the first. Thames did a nice job covering a lot of ground, but at the last moment the ball popped out of his glove for a triple. It was a tough play and there was not an error charged. The way Santana pitched the twins did not require many runs to win the game and take the series. Jordan Tata went the final three innings for the Tigers without giving up a hit and striking out one. He now has a 3.86 ERA on the year. With the loss the Tigers fall 2.5 games behind the White Sox in the AL Central with a 20-12 record. Detroit looks to rebound with Nate Robertson going tonight at Camden Yards.

*** OEs 3 Stars of the Game ***

#3 Ivan Rodriguez – 2-4 with a run scored
#2 Jordan Tata – 3 IP, 0 Rs, 0 Hs, 0 BB, 1 K
#1 Magglio Ordonez – 1-4 with a run scored, a HR and 2 RBI

On Tap – Game 33 (20-12) @ Baltimore Orioles (14-19) May 9th, 7:05 ET
Nate Robertson (3-2, 3.25) v. Daniel Cabrera (2-2, 4.73)

What'd I say about Maggs?! It's like I can see the future. Stupid Santana! Stupid White Sox! When will the Sox go on a losing streak, they're too good! And why does Santana have to start pitching well now? Oh well, two in a row ain't good, maybe they're starting to fall apart on Leyland. Sigh . . . there's always next season I guess. Time to start calling up the farmclub.
