Kyle Lohse is having a tough season for the Twinkies. He really is not giving his team an opportunity to win games. The Tigers took advantage of this for the second time in just over a week to come away with a 9-6 victory their 20th in 30 games. Kenny Rogers got the win on a night he struggled. He only went five innings and gave up a run in all but one of those innings. The offense picked him up, which is well deserved as he has been shutting down opponents all year. Roger’s tough start ended a streak of eight straight games for Detroit with a quality start. The Gambler never surrendered the lead in the game and got out of jams when the Twins threatened to go ahead. Rogers earned his fifth victory on the year.

The Tigers bullpen came up huge. Jason Grilli gave up two hits in the sixth and a run before shutting Minnesota down on three ground outs including a fielder’s choice at home. From there Detroit shortened the game with the trio of Zumaya, Rodney and Jones. Zumaya struck out two in a perfect 7th and Rodney struck out the side in the 8th. Todd Jones got his sixth save since coming off the DL. Detroit has now won seven of their last eight games.

The offense exploded for 9 runs, which is become common against Lohse. Again the long ball powered the Tigers. Craig Monroe blasted his eighth a two-run shot in the second, Magglio did the same in the third inning and Inge hit a solo shot in the fifth. Both Inge and Maggs have seven on the season. It looks like Ordonez is starting to get on a nice groove and is getting back the power he displayed a few years ago. Maggs and Monroe now have 20 RBIs in 2006 and Chris Shelton added his 21st. The Tigers offense shows balance as Guillen hit his 18th RBI and Inge’s home run was his 16th. Dmitri Young fresh off the DL added an insurance run in the ninth with a single scoring Pudge who tripled in a run. Detroit exercised some demons by taking the first game at the Metrodome where they typically struggle.

*** OEs 3 Stars of the Game ***

#3 Craig Monroe – 1-4 with a run scored, 1 BB, 1 HR and 2 RBI
#2 Joel Zumaya, Fernando Rodney and Todd Jones – dominant in the final three innings
#1 Magglio Ordonez – 3-5 with a run scored, a HR and 3 RBI

On Tap – Game 31 (20-10) @ Minnesota Twins (11-18) May 6th, 7:10 ET
Jeremy Bonderman (3-2, 3.99) v. Scott Baker (1-3, 4.40)

FIVE STARS!!!!!! What kind of scandalous system is this!? Technically if there is a three way tie for second the next place is 5th. Therefore . . . I vote to boot Craig Monroe off of the three stars! All of those in favor say aye . . . . aye . . . aye aye . . . aye.
